THE JOURNAL OF DA SLIPPA II (continued)

8/26 - The radio station from Hilo broadcasts CNN an they did a special on health and people that worry. Their viewpoint is similiar to mine, worry is a useless emotion that we should not allow to happen if a situation is out of our control. People that worry were found to have a less positive outlook and their health failed more often. Sailed decent the last couple of days. Can`t get more than 75 miles in. Sailed til 12:30 AM.

0800 hours. In a big rain squall now with no _ _ _ _ !

1500 hours. 10 knots. The best winds seem to come in the period after sunset, so I have adjusted. Sleep in, try to make the day the best I can, nap at 4-5 PM, dinner at 9 PM, and sail til 12-1 AM. I`m under 500 miles and at this pace ti is a week. I backed off on using the radio, `cause it somewhat depresses me that I can`t let the "Outside" know that I`m cool. I will try using ti on Thurs., which will put me 250 miles from Hilo. I belive that most people would be even more concerned if I had no contact come Sept.1st. There are moments like last night sailing under cluod sover with very little light that are an unbelievable rush that I don`t want to end. On the other hand of course, this light wind will break the strongest of wills. Tomorrow is one more day of sailed ocean. 22*53N 147*44W.

8/27-1500 hours: Last night ended up a rough one on me. I didn`t feel like sailing late, so at 2100 hours, I called it quits. When it is light wind - no waves, I lay the sail down on the deck and rest the top on the hatch seat. It has to be balanced just right or ti falls off to one side or the other. I tried, failed, tried, failed, screamed, tried, failed, almost fell in, screamed; it was my toughest. Finally success. Saw a ship going to LA from Honolulu, last night. This mornihg ggod wind, put up the kite, now no wind, so light, kite barly flies. But, we have Mahi for dinner. Saw three of them and one took and kept the hook. 22*43N 148*36W. 2130 hours. Just sailed the fastest two hour period yet. Tried to outrun a squall coming at me at night. Sailed between 8-12 knots. That is very fast at night. Saw some really cool birds AM. One flew within three of me. Cooked the Mahi four different ways. Excellent!

8/28-0700 hours: First night I was able to fly the kite all night Todat will be a good progress day. Last night I saw a plane`s lights, so I tried the radio. It seemed that Igot through once, but that was it. At least that is encouraging. I must keep my excitement level in control. I am not there until I hit the beach. Today is just another day so is tomorrow...etc! 22*12N 150*12W. I am officially in the same time zone as Hawaii now. About 350 miles. No luck on the other radio yet. It will appear I can get a quite a few AM radio stations now. Gonna try to make Tues.for sure. For sure Wed. Best part of today was sailing at night. Great stars, good speed. Winds 5 -15 knots. P.S. Ever hear someone say "I was worried sick" before? I did not make these things up, they are all there! Why be worried when it is out of your control? How about, "You had me worried to death!"

8/29 - Fri. Heard a plane this morning - tried the radio- no luck. Made H2O for the last time. Today was light winds.I am not even going to do a navigation fix because I do not want to get down about the slow progress. Alot of Hawaiian radio stations, cool. Maybe tomorrow the radio will work so everyone`s Labor Day won`t be so filled with so much WORRY. Sailing at night still has given me the best winds this last week. Dinner time.

8/30 - Sat. 0800 hours: Woke up after a really deep sleep. Saw two Mahi swimming under D.S.II. Also had a ship pass 1/2 mile from me. I do not know if he even saw me. Oh well, keep sailing!Maui From Da Slipper II

First site of Maui from Da Slipper II. It turned out to be that the last day was the roughest and Fisher nearly broke his leg only five miles from his ultimate destination.

2200 hours: Sailed a lot today, more yet. Just heard about Princess Di. Too bad. If I die out here in the next 3 1/2 days, we`ll have a great chat! Ever since I was a kid, I knew that 333 was going to be a part of something big in my life. Wed. is 9/3 or 3 times 3 plus 3. 21* 33N 152*58W Sailed great after dinner. Saw a lot of jets. Could not contact any. About 200 miles to go. If winds are cool, I can make Tues. sunset. 21*26N 153*48W 8/31 Sun. Sailed from 0730 hours to present,2000 hours. Trying to make to make time. Almost over. Excitement level is ok. Had a shio pass by me 1/4 mile. Don`t know lf he knew I was there. It will be interesting to talk to someone and find out if anyone knows where I am. A different kind of patience will be required of me when I get on land. Tomorrow is Sept. 1. I wonder how many people will be put on the "DEAD LIST". Also I will be in the business mode. Want to know about my windsurf trip? Let`s do lunch, dinner, or make the check out. Not that I don`t want to talk about this, I`ve got a life and other things I want to do. Have already spent enough time with this. Don`t need to re-live it again unless there is something in it for me.

9/1 - Mon. Labor Day. 0900 hours: Had to make H2O again . The last two times have been up on deck, `cause it gets too hot inside. Light winds again. Only the four hours after sunset, does it blow 15 - 20, other times 5 - 15 knots. We be close and and it is amazing, since my biggest complaint the whole time was the light wind. Head is OK, took a bath a bath and shampoo on deck. Have seen a lot of fish. I`m content not fishing. I cut my finger just a little bit. It takes time to cut and clean the fish and I still have food. If I can make Tues. sunset, I`ll go for it, if not, Wed. 21*20N 154*22W.

1600 hours: Started this trip with less than 5 knots of wind and it looks like I may have to finish that way too! Just took a nap, looked out, And I saw a 100 pound tuna jump about 50 feet away. Don`t need to catch anything that big unless he/she wants to tow me to Maui. Less than 5 knots of wind now and I have 100 miles to go. I`ve been at it for over forty days and have had only two days of winds over 20 knots. Thirty of those days have seen winds of 10 knots or less. My luck. 21*28N 154*53W. 21*29N 155*48W.
