The Building of "Da Slippa II" (continued)

Da Slippa II Halfway

The first windsurfer, Da Slippa I was overbuilt, smaller and heavier. Although it was able to make all the journeys Steve has completed, it was slower and less agile than it's descendant. "It (the first Slippa) was always designed to be a prototype," commented Fisher.

This photo was taken of Da Slippa II halfway through construction on his backyard in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. "The windsurfer was made out of a closed cell foam that was glued together to create the shape," Fisher said, adding that other material included Kevlar®, carbon fiber, fiberglass, and epoxy resin. It was ultimately painted orange for the utmost visibility at sea.
